On the ‘diagnostic software’ side, the single thing that consistently saves me time is carrying an FTDI-based USB-to-RS232 with a tiny null-modem, since a lot of legacy pumps and monitors still expect serial for logs or firmware. Do you still run into serial-only gear at your site? If you hate dongles, a laptop with a native COM port works just as well and avoids flaky chipsets.
